Artist Highlight

Kristi’s children’s illustration work and fine art work is recognized for it’s whimsical characters and a trademark sepia effect.

Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest into a family of artists and avid gardeners, she whiled away many childhood hours in the garden looking for fairies. It was at the ripe age of six years that she decided on her future path as a children’s illustrator and fine artist. She attended the Emily Carr College of Art. During a hiatus to raise her own children, where she educated herself in the evenings and worked in children's classrooms by day, she gained insight and inspiration to work in her chosen field.

Kristi lives, paints and gardens with her family in Victoria, BC. She has been instrumental in a number of environmental fundraising projects donating both her time and artwork.

She is currently Vice President of the Island Illustrators Society, Editor of 'The Grapevine' , newsletter for the Federation of Canadian Artists, Victoria Chapter. She is also an active juried member of the local chapter of the FCA, and a registered member of CARFAC, CARCC, CACGV, and CANSCAIP.

My Inspiration:
I work in a variety of mediums and subject matter. I enjoy whimsical characters and an antique sepia effect. I am inspired by the works of Arthur Rackham, Dr. Suess or more recently, Charles van Sandwyk. I favour the same warm brown sepia tones in all mediums and subjects, including acrylics, botanicals and mandalas.

Quail’s Tale:

Kristi’s long list of accomplishments includes the commissioned artwork for a wonderful book “The Knot Fairy” by Bobbie Hinman (www.bestfairybooks.com) which won the Bronze award at the 2007 Independent Publisher Book Awards – Childrens Picture Books, 6 and under.
If you are looking for a special, inspiring piece of original artwork for someone young, or young at heart, don’t miss Kristi’s work in the Gallery-Paintings-Watercolours section. You will also find a selection of Kristi’s note cards in the Gifts section.
