Artists - Loris Nygaard
I have been creating art since I was a child, to fulfill an existence in me. It’s my life’s calling, that can only be assuaged with building innovative pieces of beauty. I love to challenge the norm, stepping outside the box. Who wants to be cornered? We are free spirits, and being unique individuals, the creative energy that comes from within should be just as sacred.
While my earlier medium was clay, I discovered stained glass and the scintillating effects of glass I felt from the brilliant colours reacting to light. As I was reaching for new forms to enhance my work, I began to manipulate wire, creating a filigree style – inherent to the classic days of Art Deco. It was obvious that wire and stained glass complemented each other; soon I was creating three dimensional shapes.
I am passionate as well as addicted to what I do - and never wish to become a high-production business nor an assembly line. Each piece I make is unique and could never be duplicated.
Quails Tale:
For a real treat, when you are in Victoria, go to the Rogers Chocolates store in Oak Bay, the Rogers’ Soda Shoppe on Government, the Ross Bay Pub in Fairfield - have a close look at the incredible stained glass pendant lights – each was hand made by Loris. The Strathcona Hotel has a brilliant chandelier on their lobby created by Loris, and you’ll find her lights above the bars in their Clubhouse and cabaret "Element".
Loris’s candle collars and lamps create their own form of light show – turn down the big lights and experience the atmosphere the kaleidoscope of colour creates. Her window panels are exquisite – a harmonious mix of traditional Celtic Knots and modern filigree wire work - perfect for any eclectic setting.
Maintenance and cleaning are relatively easy when your art piece becomes dusty. Simply remove the artwork from the light fixture and hold it under warm running water (never use cleaning agents), while gently using a soft cloth and tooth brush to remove any dust. Buff dry.
